Yttria doping stabilizes the zirconia crystal structure from the monoclinic phase to the tetragonal or cubic phase, effectively preventing volume expansion and micro-cracking caused by phase transitions, thereby imparting the material with exceptional mechanical strength, thermal stability, and electrical insulation properties. With a density of 5.95–6.1 g/cm³, a hardness exceeding 9 on the Mohs scale, a flexural strength of 800–1200 MPa, and a fracture toughness of 5–10 MPa·m¹/², these rings combine a metal-like elastic modulus with the wear and corrosion resistance of ceramics, making them an ideal choice for electrical insulation and structural support under extreme operating conditions.
